Gamelon® 3.0 What kind of programs are you building now? The very existence of the Internet invites the development of distributed applications, but how do you deal with the fact that over 80% of Internet connections are dial-ups? And the very nature of up-to-date windowing applications invites the use of graphics, sound and unstructured data, but how do you organize and manage collections of such objects? Complexity is a big part of the developer's problem, and Gamelon is a big part of the solution. Gamelon is a programmer's object-oriented persistent data management library. It provides type-safe persistence for data, both structured and unstructured. It enables easy, logical data access through database-like 'first', 'last', 'prior' and 'next' functions. It permits --when the programmer so desires -- run-time modification of data structures and data types. It provides indexing, object-by-object encryption and annotations and even transaction management. And it helps track the origin of objects that have been received from other network nodes. Gamelon also brews your coffee :>) Well, not quite: it helps you brew your JavaTM. And your ActiveXTM, DelphiTM, Visual BasicTM, C, C++, etc. This remarkable library was built to support the development of software agents. We have given much thought to the circumstances with which programmers must deal in a loosely-coupled network environment in which mobile software agents (programs) can relocate onto various platforms and into computers that connect to the network irregularly and may never again 'call home'. How can versions be controlled? How can itinerant objects be identified? How can arriving objects be authenticated and how can data be secured? Can an agent be made flexible enough to preserve data that varies in structure and type from that which the programmer anticipated? What happens when the environment has limited memory and disk resources? And many other such questions. We certainly don't have all the answers: but Gamelon makes the answers easier. |
